HCC ID & Library Cards

ATTENTION: HCC ID cards will not be issued during the Fall 2020 semester during Stage 2A of the College's reopening plan. ID cards are not needed to access Library materials at this time; if you have questions, please call 443-412-2268.

Who can register for an HCC ID / Library Card?

HCC credit students and employees: You must register for an HCC ID, which is also your library card. There is no cost, but to replace a lost student card is $15.

HCC noncredit students: You may be eligible for a CET Student or a Clinical ID if you are enrolled in an eligible class. If you are not enrolled in an eligible class, you may be eligible to register for free as a Community Borrower. ID eligible students should bring their H numbers.

Community Borrowers: Maryland residents are eligible to register for a HCC library card for free. You must present proof of identification, as listed below, with a Maryland address. You must be 18 years or older.

If you do not reside in Maryland, you may still be eligible for an HCC Community Borrower library card if you fall within any of the following four exceptions:

  1. Spouse or child of an active HCC employee – The active HCC employee must accompany dependent when applying for an HCC library card. The HCC employee must present an HCC ID.
  2. Military personnel stationed in Maryland – Active military personnel must present military identification and a piece of mail received at their Maryland address.
  3. Retired HCC employee or spouse of retired HCC employee- Must complete an Exceptions Form when applying for a Community Borrower Card. It may take up to 3 business days to process your request.
  4. HCC Degree of Certificate Obtaining Students – Must complete an Exceptions Form when applying for a Community Borrower card. It may take up to 3 business days to process your request.

HCC Youth Library Card: Youth between the ages of 13-17 years may obtain an HCC library card with the consent of a parent or legal guardian and if they reside in Maryland. The parent or legal guardian must be eligible for a library card as a Community Borrower, HCC Employee, or HCC Student. Both the parent and child must complete a consent form.

What document(s) do I need to register for an HCC ID/Library Card?

You will need to provide one of the following as proof of identification.  (Credit students: You will also need your Student ID Number/H Number.)

  • Valid Driver's License or Learner's Permit
  • Valid State MVA ID Card
  • Valid Government ID
  • Valid US Passport
  • Valid Permanent Resident Card
  • Valid Employment Authorization Card
  • Valid Visa or Passport From Another Country
  • Valid Driver's License From Another Country

Where do I register for an HCC ID/ Library Card?

Please visit the Circulation Desk located on the second floor of the Library and present a photo ID that verifies your name, address and age (see What document(s) do I need to register...). You will be asked to fill out a registration form. NOTE: ID/Library cards are available ONLY until 1/2 hour before closing.

How do I access research databases from off campus with my card?

As of December 15, 2017, you no longer need your library card number to access our research databases from off-campus. You will need to enter your HCC Username and Password.

Off-campus access is available only to current HCC credit students and HCC faculty and staff.
