Harford Community College’s first class of Heavy Equipment Operations students received their certificates on Tuesday, August 29, in Edgewood Hall. The program, new to the College, began in March. Instructor John Alexander brings more than 30 years of experience to the classroom to provide students with skills that are meaningful to employers in the area. Not only did students learn about the proper safety and operation of equipment, they also learned how to read grade stakes, interpret civil drawings, and understand different types of soils.

Governor Larry Hogan announced a $1.97 billion investment to fund highway and bridge improvements across Maryland, with construction starting by 2018.1 This new certificate program at Harford Community College will address the increased need for trained heavy and highway equipment operators in Maryland.
