On April 18, four students received their certificates for completing the Heavy Equipment Operations program at Harford Community College. The seven-month program, funded by a grant through Susquehanna Workforce Network, consisted of safety training, site work and grading, reading stakes, excavation math, and understanding civil drawings. The students also took a class in print reading and received their OSHA 10-hour safety certification.

Representatives from DXI Construction spoke to the students and congratulated them on their accomplishments. They also spoke of the opportunities that the heavy equipment industry has to offer and the high demand in this area for trained operators. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics Occupational Outlook, employment in this industry is expected to grow 12 percent in the next decade, with a mean wage in Maryland of $49,560.
