Wellness

Our Wellness programs provide each student with knowledge, opportunities, & healthy practices to create a fulfilling college experience.

The Office of Student Life offers the following learning outcomes through its wellness programming:

  • Access to programs that offer understanding of the 8 dimensions of wellness: emotional, spiritual, intellectual, physical, environmental, financial, occupational, and social
  • Comprehension of concepts related to educational and awareness events in regards to Sexual health, sexual assault prevention, domestic violence prevention, alcohol & drug abuse education, nutrition & food security, and mental health
  • Promotes self-advocacy in order to avoid health risks and to enhance overall wellbeing and quality of life
  • Promotes advocacy for not only self, but also family and community health by using interpersonal skills and knowledge acquired through offered trainings, discussions, and speaker series
  • Addresses individual wellness needs and offers relevant health and wellness information and access to a plethora of local resources

Each semester The Office of Student Life offers Wellness programs & workshops which align with our wellness principles, allowing our students to thrive and create a more meaningful college experience. Please visit our events page for a complete list of offerings.

Mindful Mondays:

Each Monday of the semester, students have the option to spend their College Hour engaged in one of our wellness-focused workshops. They include: Wellness 101, painting, vision boards, poetry, meditation, journaling, civility, and healthy relationships.

Programs are also available throughout the year on topics such as: stalking, alcohol & other drug addiction, sexual assault and violence, suicide prevention, health education, sexual health, earth day, and overall wellness.

We proudly partner with local community organizations to provide comprehensive and monthly health awareness events, screenings, and testing.

Yoga on the Quad:

Each semester there are opportunities for students to take part in free outdoor yoga classes.

Games on the Quad:

When the weather permits, the Office of Student Life promotes outdoor recreation. We are happy to provide outdoor games & activities to our students and student groups.

Wellness Fair:

Each fall semester students have the opportunity to meet with over 20 different local organizations, sample healthy food, and participate in yoga, sound healing, or meditation workshops.

Finals Week:

In the Office of Student Life, we value and know the importance of health and wellness during finals. We offer free massages for credit students, as well as stress relief activities and healthy snacks so that students can decompress before or after an exam.

The Office of Student Life is home to our campus’s Food Pantry. This pantry is available for the entire college community. If you would like more information about access to free or low-cost food both on or off campus, please contact Laura Burke at lburke@harford.edu or 443-412-2090.

  • The Food Pantry is available during our office hours Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. 
  • Most of our events offer free meals or snacks for those that are concerned about missing a meal to attend events.
  • We also offer workshops on healthy eating, budgets, and cooking.

Are you an HCC student in need of emergency food or gas assistance?

Our Meditation room offers a quiet space for meditation and relaxation for individual students or small groups. The space is available in half hour increments on Mondays, Thursdays, & Fridays 9:00am-4:00pm

Meditation has been proven to reduce stress, anxiety and depression while increasing sense of wellbeing, calmness and centeredness

On Site Counseling offers confidential, free, short term counseling for enrolled credit students. Call 410-583-2222 to make an appointment. Drop-in’s also available. Student Center, Room 104.

Student Assistance Program (SAP) is free for students & provides in-the moment support to help students navigate the everyday challenges that can interfere with the ability to learn and thrive. Information on SAP can be accessed through OwlNet.

Online, confidential mental health screening is also available to students through OwlNet.
